This painting began as a print film snapshot that I took, I think, back in the '80's. Near the heart of the northern half of Mount Desert Island, just beside the junction of Crooked and Norway Roads on a humid, early September morning, my eye was caught by the reflection of the morning sky in the marshy water of Old Mill Brook. The picture I took became a 4 x 6 print that soon became a 19 x 26 painting. An unfinished painting, because I was never quite satisfied with it. For many years it languished, sometimes hanging frameless on the wall, and sometimes stashed away in storage. Finally, last year I returned to it and gave it the full treatment it deserved. I'm so glad I didn't succumb to the temptation just to give up on it!
